Starter Jackets making a comeback?

The recent announcement that the Charlotte Bobcats plan to change the team’s name back to that of the city’s original NBA franchise, the Charlotte Hornets, provoked a little nostalgia around the For The Win headquarters. Not so much for the team that once featured Muggsy Bogues, Alonzo Mourning and Larry Johnson, but for the era of Starter jackets ubiquitous with the team’s early ’90s heyday.

Starter jackets were typically designed to show allegiance to a particular professional or college sports team, and prominently featured both the team's logo and colors. The most popular versions were in a pullover style. There were widespread robberies of the jackets as they became a larger status symbol that was well covered by the media. Starter jackets have now made resurgence in 2013 with a campaign that will start this 3rd quarter of this year.
Apparently we aren’t the only ones. Resurrected by former New York Giants linebacker Carl Banks’ apparel company, the brand will be relaunching its satin team jacket this fall. As a fun way to kick off this holiday weekend, here’s a look at several other people who are likely just as eagerly awaiting the release date.
